Shad Rig

Shad fishing is becoming more popular with more people wanting to try it and it does have its moments but to be safe it is always wise to have a selection of pirks and hokkias with you.
All that is required to try shad fishing is a 4 inch shad of a colour of your own choice, some 25-50lb mono to use as a trace, The top colours that i have seen are blue, purple, gold and i have seen other colours be efective such as Yellow Tiger.
The method for attaching the shad are as follows, This is simple just use 25-50lb mono to make a trace 5-9 feet long tie one end to the shad and make a loop in the other then attach this loop to the snap swivel of your main line then use an ordinary sinker between 8 and 12ozs and attach this to the same swivel as the shad simple its done.
If you need to be more technical you could add a boom and swop the mono for flurocarbon line but it is not absolutley necessary as both methods work well.

METHOD
Simply drop this virtually tangle free rig down to the sea bed and slowly wind up about 20 to 30 times then drop back down again and repeat thats it now your shadding what happens next is up to the fish but if you do get a bite its best to resist the urge to strike but keep on slowly retrieving the line and the fish normally hooks it self.
It is possible to use lighter tackle for shad fishing than you would normally use for jigging but again this is not essential
